Riding down a dream

Back in the saddle again, and again, and again… My TransAmerica Bike Trip 2016

About

Hi! Thanks for visiting my TransAmerica Trail bicycle blog.  My name is Don and this summer (2016) I am embarking on a cross county bicycle trip.  At the end of May I will leave Astoria, OR and ride to Yorktown, VA.  I hope to be in Yorktown by the end of July, first week of August.  I would like to average 70-80 miles/day, primarily tent camp and do this solo/self-supported.  You might ask yourself why?  Has he lost his marbles?  No, no marble loss to my knowledge.  The title of the blog, “Riding down a dream” says it all.  In the summer of 2012, my wife Audrey, our dog Luna, and I had a fantastic and adventurous RV trip out west.  For me, a once in a lifetime trip.  We have a blog for that trip at Adventures with Luna.  We visited 20 States and 13 National Parks and it was awesome.  One of our campground stays was just outside Jackson, WY and it offered a panoramic view of the Grand Tetons.  One morning I was walking the grounds and came upon a group of cyclists packing up their tents and gear.  I could see that they had quite a bit of gear and asked how far they were riding.  One guy said across the US!  I said, “across the US on your bicycles”?  Yup!  I thought man that is awesome, what an adventure, what a challenge!  The seed was planted.  For the past 3 and a half years, it was in the back of my mind.  Would I ever have the opportunity to take on this challenge?  Well, as I write this, it is less than two weeks away.  I hope you enjoy following the ride!
